EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION
(THE MORNING AFTER PILL)
It is a method of birth control that may prevent pregnancy after an unprotected sexual encounter. It is also called "The Morning After Pill"; "The Day After Pill"; or "Morning After Contraception". Emergency Contraception can be used right after or up to five days after unprotected or forced sex or in situation when your existing birth control method(s) failed.
The use of Emergency Contraception would reduce the likelihood but is not as effective in preventing pregnancy as birth control methods that are used during or before sex (such as condoms and pills). It is therefore important that if you are sexually active and do not wish to get pregnant, do not use Emergency Contraception as your only means of birth control. More importantly, Emergency Contraceptives do NOT protect against the transmission of STD's (such as HIV, Syphilis, etc.). The proper use of condoms can protect you against the transmission of STD's.
